1. About these terms

These Course Booking Terms apply to bookings for forging and bladesmithing courses provided by Rutherford Forge.

By requesting, confirming or attending a course, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these terms, your booking confirmation and the applicable course information.

These terms should be read together with our general Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

Rutherford Forge is located in Johannesburg North, Randburg, Johannesburg, 2188.

2. Booking confirmation

A course enquiry does not automatically constitute a confirmed booking.

A booking is confirmed once Rutherford Forge has confirmed the date and received the agreed payment or deposit.

Because course places are limited, a confirmed booking reserves workshop time, materials and planning for the named participant or group.

Our normal maximum is six students per course, although smaller groups may be scheduled.

3. Payment

Payment may be made either:

For EFT payments, proof of payment must be emailed to admin@netactive.co.za before the course.

For groups larger than two people, a 50% deposit is required to secure the booking. The remaining balance may be paid by EFT before the course or in cash upon commencement of the course.

EFT payments must be made to:

Account holder: HB Rutherford
Bank: Nedbank
Account type: Cheque Account
Account number: 1120 864 267
Branch code: 168 405
Reference: Your name and surname

4. Course information and prices

Course descriptions, durations and prices are shown on the Rutherford Forge website or provided in writing.

The course price includes the activities and materials specifically described for that course. Any additional items or services will be discussed before being charged.

Rutherford Forge may correct an obvious pricing or description error before confirming a booking.

5. Course dates and changes

Course dates are arranged by agreement and depend on workshop availability.

If a participant needs to change a booking, please notify Rutherford Forge as soon as possible.

Where reasonable notice is given, Hylton will generally try to accommodate a rescheduled date. Rescheduling remains subject to workshop availability and is not guaranteed.

Rutherford Forge may need to change a course date or make reasonable changes to the programme because of safety, equipment, operational or other circumstances beyond our control. If this happens, we will contact affected participants and discuss an alternative date or another appropriate arrangement.

6. Cancellations and refunds

Please notify Rutherford Forge as early as possible if you need to cancel. Early notice gives us the best opportunity to offer the place to another student.

A confirmed booking may require other students to be moved, materials to be prepared and workshop time to be reserved. Last-minute cancellations can therefore cause costs and lost workshop income.

Rutherford Forge does not generally provide refunds for cancellations. For groups larger than two people, a deposit secures the reserved date and may not ordinarily be refundable where the group cancels at short notice.

Hylton may consider a refund, rescheduling or another reasonable arrangement in exceptional circumstances, including death, hospitalisation, a serious medical emergency or a significant traumatic event. Each request will be considered individually and fairly.

Refunds or alternative arrangements are not guaranteed.

Nothing in these terms limits any consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

7. Safety and participation

Forging and workshop activities involve heat, metal, tools, machinery and other physical risks.

Participants must:

Rutherford Forge may stop a participant from taking part in an activity if their conduct creates a safety risk to themselves, another person, the workshop or the equipment.

An indemnity and consent form may be required before participation. This does not remove any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

8. Children, minors and accessibility

Children from the age of eight may attend suitable courses, subject to prior discussion and confirmation with Rutherford Forge.

A parent or legal guardian must provide the required consent for a minor. Any supervision or participation arrangements for a minor must be agreed before the booking is confirmed.

We welcome enquiries from wheelchair users and participants with accessibility requirements. Please tell us about your needs when enquiring so that we can discuss suitable arrangements in advance.

9. Photography, video and Student Stories

Photography, video and Student Story consent will appear as a clearly identified section on the Rutherford Forge indemnity and consent form.

Participants may consent to Rutherford Forge using photographs, videos, their name and a short account of their experience on the Rutherford Forge website, social-media pages and other marketing channels.

A participant who does not consent may cross out the photography and Student Story consent section and initial the change before signing the form.

For a minor, the parent or legal guardian must provide or refuse consent on the minor’s behalf.

If consent is refused or crossed out, Rutherford Forge will not knowingly use that person’s identifiable image, name or Student Story for promotional purposes.

Students are welcome and encouraged to take photographs and videos during their visit, provided this is done safely and does not interfere with Hylton, other students or workshop operations.

By taking or publishing photographs or videos made on the Rutherford Forge premises, you grant Rutherford Forge a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide and ongoing licence to use, reproduce, edit, repost and publish that content on its website, social-media platforms and other marketing channels, without further permission or payment.

You confirm that you have the right to grant this permission and have obtained consent from any identifiable people shown, including a parent or guardian where a minor appears.

If you do not want to appear in Rutherford Forge’s use of such content, please tell us before the content is taken or published.

10. Food, refreshments and allergies

For full-day courses, Rutherford Forge generally provides a light lunch at approximately 1:00 pm, together with coffee, tea and water.

Participants may bring their own lunch, snacks and juice.

Please tell us in advance about allergies, dietary requirements or if you are vegan.

11. Parking

Safe parking is available on the Rutherford Forge property, behind a locked gate.

Participants must follow any parking instructions given when they arrive.
